Memo to Housekeeping

Here’s a news flash: some hotel guests stay longer than a night or two.  Some even stay for a week.

minibarSome of these guests like a snack with their drink in the evening…assuming there are any left after the first night. So do us all a favour (and improve your bottom line): service the mini bar every day.

Our personal record was in Manhattan, where they finally replenished the minibar and replaced the snacks on our seventh day  —  a couple of hours before we checked out. (Yes, you, Central Park South.)

Some will send laundry more than once, and if they do, they’ll probably have to call Housekeeping and ask someone to bring up a laundry bag and a laundry list. Why? Because there aren’t any in the room. Why not? Because apparently they’re only replaced when the room turns over.

Are you with me so far? You may want to write this down. Having to pile our dirty laundry on the floor, in the absence of a laundry bag, and itemise it, piece by piece, with the housekeeping staff, is an inconvenient and undignified business for everyone concerned. So when you collect the laundry, replace the bag and the laundry list. Every time.

Repeat after me. Longer-stay guests are your friends. They spend more money and they’re less work. So treat them kindly. It’s not that hard.
